There’s a chance to work at Gloucester Wall’s ice cream factory on a work experience scheme run by Unilever and Smart Training & Recruitment.

Unilever’s famous Wall’s factory in Gloucester, which produces 20 million ice creams a week, has launched a new traineeship programme to help young people find work.

The multibillion pound turnover British multinational, which makes its Twister, Cornetto and Magnum products at its Wall’s factory, has teamed up with Smart Training & Recruitment to offer the new work placements.

Ten places are available for young people aged 19 to 24, who are unemployed and have little or no work experience, to join the ‘I’m Wall’s’ programme and become part of the 450-strong staff team at the Barnwood factory.

Andrew Cummings, factory director at Unilever Gloucester, said: ‘It’s been an especially tough year for young people finding it difficult to get into work.

‘Our traineeship is made specifically to support that first step into an entry level role and will equip the trainees with the skills and confidence to find long-term employment, be that with us or elsewhere.’

Placements begins with four weeks training provided by Smart Training & Recruitment, which will also help develop maths, English and digital skills.

Trainees will then be partnered with a mentor with the opportunity for successful candidates to be offered a paid summer placement and longer-term employment.
