Second major sports retailer to open in Regent Arcade

Another huge global sports retailer – a first for the south west – is due to open in Cheltenham’s Regent Arcade, following on from JD Sports’ new opening.

International sports retail giant Decathlon is to open a new store in Cheltenham’s Regent Arcade in time for Christmas.

It comes hot on the heels of the town centre shopping and leisure destination revealing JD Sports would be moving into a new 11,000 square foot in time for the festive period.

French brand Decathlon, described as the largest sporting goods retailer in the world, is due to open a 20,000 square foot shop in the arcade and by late November 2021.

Scott Lahive, manager of Regent Arcade, which is owned by Canada Life Asset Management, said: ‘This will be its first store in the south west. We are delighted Decathlon has chosen Cheltenham to open its first store in the region, but also its first town centre store. It is a real sign of confidence in the town.

‘With the opening of Tivoli cinema, JD Sports and now Decathlon I think we can say we are coming out of the pandemic stronger.’

The boutique luxury cinema opened its 23,000 sq ft five-screen venue in late September 2021, with SoGlos unveiling an EXCLUSIVE: First look inside TIVOLI Cinema Cheltenham.

‘The good thing about JD Sports and Decathlon is that while we have always served the needs of the family market well, this will allow us to also offer something to those in their early 20s, as well as across most sports,’ said Mr Lahive. ‘It is great to be able to expand our audience.’
