The Museum of Gloucester finally reopened to the public on Tuesday 18 May 2021, with a brand new exhibition in its Community Gallery.

CommUNITY has been co-curated by Gloucester-based artist, Rider Shafique, using films and photographs from the people of Gloucester.

The exhibition asks visitors to consider what community is, who they are and what they love, exploring the history and heritage of local communities through art.

Rider Shafique is known for creating authentic artworks that are true to his own culture, identity and surroundings and hopes the exhibition will encourage others to see the artistic value in their own experiences and perspectives.

Rider said: ‘Community to me means to have a common unity, a common goal and objective. I want to create or rekindle this unity that I personally feel Gloucester at times lacks especially in the sense of feeling represented or reflected in some of Gloucester’s long-standing attractions or institutions.

‘I am interested in working alongside the Museum of Gloucester in starting to reflect a wider, more diverse and a more accurate face of Gloucester.’

See CommUNITY in the Museum of Gloucester’s Community Gallery from Tuesday 18 May 2021.
