A craft beer created as a social enterprise by students in Gloucestershire, has earned its way onto the shelves of Waitrose and Partners.
Muddy Wellies ale is now on sale in three branches of Waitrose and Partners in Gloucestershire, after the supermarket giant liked both its taste, and message, which sees 10p from every bottle sold returned to the Royal Agricultural University, to help launch new business ideas for students.
First created by students at the Royal Agricultural University in Cirencester back in 2006, each cohort of students has taken Muddy Wellies a little further on its journey.
Katy Duke is head of enterprise at the RAU, and said: ‘It’s been a big journey for Muddy Wellies. Seeing the beer taking pride of place in Waitrose over a decade after students came up with the idea makes us all proud and excited about where this might go now.’
Appearing on the shelves next to brands such as Peroni ands Punk IPA, the traditional bitter, Muddy Wellies, with a hint of rye is marketed as a ‘drink with sole.’
David Goddard is the assistant buyer for local and regional at Waitrose & Partners, and said: ‘Muddy Wellies is a stand-out, great tasting beer that also supports young entrepreneurs starting their own businesses, so we’re excited about launching this original ale into three of our shops in Gloucestershire.’
