Celebrating summer in style, the Tuckwell Amphitheatre at Cheltenham’s Bacon Theatre is welcoming audiences back for its annual Open-Air Theatre Festival – with a must-see programme of gripping drama, feel-good films and family shows this August 2022.
With events taking place from Tuesday 2 to Friday 12 August 2022, there’s something for everyone – including classic plays, theatre for youngsters, live music evenings and cinema nights under the stars.

Open-air cinema at Tuckwell Amphitheatre
Movie fans can sit back, relax and enjoy big screen entertainment from Cinema Under the Stars at Tuckwell Amphitheatre this summer. Patrick Swayze stars in the cult classic, Dirty Dancing on Thursday 11 August 2022; or you can catch one of the most iconic musicals of all time when Chicago screens on Friday 12 August 2022.

Festival highlights for theatregoers include an invitation to Slapstick Picnic’s summer tea party, as they bring Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest to life on Wednesday 3 August 2022; an enchanting adaptation of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night on Thursday 4 August 2022; and the chance to see DOT Productions’ adaptation of The Jungle Book on Sunday 7 August 2022.
Audiences can also take in DOT Productions’ showing of George Bernard Shaw’s classic drama Pygmalion on Tuesday 9 August 2022 – following a similar story to the family-favourite musical My Fair Lady, which was based on the original play.

Audiences are in for a hilariously witty evening, as the brand-new Gilbert and Sullivan production of Iolanthe from Opera Anywhere tells the tale of forbidden love between fairies and mortals on Friday 5 August 2022.
Plus, music lovers can look forward to A Swinging Summer Evening as Cheltenham musician Peter Gill returns to Tuckwell for a session of piano jams, boogie-woogie and rock ‘n’ roll on Saturday 6 August 2022.

Let your hair down, Rapunzel is coming to the stage on Tuesday 2 August 2022, delighting family audiences with an adaptation of the classic children’s fairy tale. The larger-than-life production is set to be packed with laughs, audience interaction, catchy songs – and maybe even a water gun or two…
