Some of the West End's best-known songs are coming to Cheltenham for one night only, when Phantom and West End Classics transforms St Gregory the Great church into an atmospheric candlelit concert venue on Friday 13 November 2026.
Featuring West End performer Danny Whitehead and award-winning singer Rachel Roper, accompanied by the Celonatius Ensemble, the concert brings together musical theatre and opera in an intimate setting in the heart of town.
Hear West End favourites by candlelight
Audiences can expect a programme packed with recognisable numbers from stage favourites including Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables and The Sound of Music.
Rather than a traditional theatre production, the evening strips things back to the music, with vocals accompanied by sweeping strings and the church illuminated by candlelight.
There are two separate performances to choose from – one from 6pm to 7pm and another from 8pm to 9pm – with the same programme performed at both sittings.

He is joined by mezzo-soprano Rachel Roper, who has been named MOCSA Young Welsh Singer of the Year and was a Glyndebourne Jerwood Artist, as well as being a finalist in the 2026 Kathleen Ferrier Awards.
Providing the string accompaniment is the internationally performing Celonatius Ensemble.
