Gloucestershire's leading media brand is recruiting a staff writer / copywriter to join its Creative Hub team in Cheltenham, creating compelling editorial, content marketing, and social media content for an engaged local audience – with a vacancy for a new team member to join at a staff writer or senior staff writer level, depending on previous experience.  

It is an exciting time to join the independent publisher, with SoPublishing named Small Digital Publisher of the Year at the 2026 AOP Awards and flagship brand SoGlos continuing to grow its reach and influence across Gloucestershire.

The successful candidate will become an important part of the team – helping to tell Gloucestershire's most interesting stories and creating high-performing campaigns for some of the county's leading businesses and organisations.

About the staff writer / copywriter role at SoGlos

You’ll be at the heart of SoGlos – crafting articles, delivering campaigns, and creating social content that people genuinely want to read, share, and act on.
  • Writing engaging lifestyle, business, and community content for SoGlos partners, as well as editorial articles
  • Working closely with partners and our partnerships team to deliver creative, results-driven campaigns 
  • Publishing and managing content through SoGlos’s innovative in-house CMS
  • Sub-editing team content to maintain SoGlos’s high editorial standards 
  • Creating standout social media content across Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn
  • Managing display advertising campaigns through Google AdManager
  • Actively spotting story ideas, trends, and opportunities that will resonate with our audience
This is a full-time, permanent role, although part-time arrangements of a minimum three days per week may be considered for the right candidate.

Who SoGlos is looking for?

First and foremost, you need to be an excellent writer.

You'll be creative, curious, and confident, with the ability to turn a brief or story idea into polished content that people genuinely want to read, respond to, and share.

You will also be:
  • Able to quickly adapt to SoGlos’s fresh, positive, and timely house style 
  • Highly organised, adaptable, and comfortable managing multiple deadlines
  • Confident working directly with clients, with a professional and solutions-focused approach 
  • Meticulous with attention to detail, grammar, and spelling
  • A strong communicator with a proactive and positive attitude 
  • Experienced creating engaging social media content – ideally across Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn 
  • Comfortable using digital tools and open to learning new systems 
  • Some SEO/AEO knowledge is advantageous 


Salary and benefits

  • £25,000 to £30,000 pro-rata, depending on experience 
  • A key role at Gloucestershire’s leading media brand 
  • Based at SLG's Studio 19 in the Brewery Quarter – one of Gloucestershire's most exciting and creative workspaces 
  • Hybrid working  – minimum two days a week in office
