Living in Gloucestershire gives foodies access to a phenomenal range of delectable dishes, creative chefs and inspiring interiors. So much so, it can be hard to choose which of the county’s gastronomic venues is the best to spend your time and cash.
SoGlos hopes to help, by rounding up 15 of the most fantastic fine dining restaurants in the Cotswolds in our latest hot list, promising heavenly flavours and exceptional service.
GL50 is a fine dining restaurant located on Cheltenham’s Royal Well Road which serves up modern British cuisine.
Led by chef director, Jonas Lodge, the venue opened in October 2019 and provides an ever-changing menu, with a lower cost lunchtime option that tackles food waste.
The name GL50 was chosen because Jonas didn’t want the Cheltenham fine dining venue to ‘sound really pretentious’, so was selected to reflect the venue’s postcode and welcoming atmosphere.

Opening its doors in November 2019, GL50 is the passion project of chef director Jonas Lodge, who trained under Heston Blumenthal.
Offering ever-changing menus, some of GL50’s opening selections include hay smoked lamb rump with barley, baby gem and toasted barley sauce; roast cod with new potatoes, sorrel, smoked roe and fermented celeriac velouté; and roast grouse, potato mille-feuille, braised red cabbage and blackberries.
Desserts include dark chocolate tart with malted cabbage ice cream and barley honeycomb; and baked hibiscus and rose yoghurt with hibiscus jelly and pistachio.
Housed inside No.38 The Park, Prithvi is a fine dining Indian restaurant, which serves both modern and traditional cuisine in stylish surroundings.
Promising a relaxed and memorable dining experience, the venue blends exquisite flavours with authentic Indian freshness, creating brightly coloured dishes that are delightfully refined.
Wild Garlic is a bistro in Nailsworth which serves up a range of delicious artisanal pasta, traditional British cuisine, steaks and also has a vegan fine dining menu. The venue offers a menu for little ones, with a Wild Garlic take on traditional children’s classics such as plaice goujons, grilled herb chicken and fries, and pappardelle in tomato sauce.
Just a stone’s throw from Wild Garlic, is Wilder – the venue’s tasting menu restaurant, offering a gastronomic experience for foodies who want to try the very best of what the kitchen can offer.
The Slaughters Manor House is one of the finest 17th century country houses in the south of England, serving fine dining cuisine in its three AA rosette restaurant.
Light and contemporary, its stunning orangery is home to a team of fantastic chefs and delicious menus filled with flavour. Guests can visit The Slaughters Manor House for snacks and lounge food, afternoon tea, or a full fine dining service in its restaurant.
A luxurious country house hotel and cookery school just across the border in Worcestershire, Eckington Manor is also home to a fabulous restaurant which combines British and European cuisine.
Featuring locally grown produce from Eckington Manor’s farm and the surrounding area, it’s a great spot for Sunday lunch or more traditional dinners, with mains including fillet of sea trout with celeriac linguine, mussels, apple and samphire; and breast and leg of poussin with asparagus, hen of the woods and peas.
The Wild Rabbit is a stylish gastropub located in the Cotswold village of Kingham. Offering modern British menus created using seasonal ingredients, the venue promises a relaxed atmosphere and a warm welcome.
The constantly changing menu features organic fruit and vegetables from the Daylesford market garden, alongside organic and free-range meats. Mains include market garden squash risotto with Sheep Rustler cheese, oyster mushroom, radish and parsley; and Cornish cod with English pea, grelot onion, lettuce and smoked bacon.
Located near to Bourton-on-the-Water in the heart of the Cotswolds, Lords of the Manor Hotel is home to two indulgent dining spaces – The Atrium and The Dining Room.
The Atrium is the venue’s tasting menu fine dining restaurant, home to impeccable standards and boasts three AA Rosettes, alongside being listed in the Good Food Guide.
Offering an à la carte menu, The Dining Room offers a more relaxed experience with a quintessentially Cotswold feel and is also open for weekend lunches.
Relaxed fine dining with a focus on seafood, Purslane is an independent restaurant in the heart of Cheltenham run by chef patron Gareth Fulford.
Using fresh and sustainably-caught seafood from Cornwall, Purslane’s menu changes bi-monthly, and uses the best possible locally sourced ingredients to creating interesting and inventive dishes such as ruby red Devon beef rump with beetroot, ox cheek, kale, buttermilk and horseradish; and Cornish cod with Jerusalem artichokes, king oysters, sea cabbage and yeast emulsion.
Described as the ‘acme of excellence’ Restaurant 5 North Street in Winchcombe is an independent, modern British restaurant offering both an à la carte and tasting menu for its guests.
While the menus are ever-changing, some of the restaurant’s signature dishes include roasted ox tongue with celeriac and braised crisp onion; Cornish john dory with sweetcorn and sweet and sour red pepper; and bay lead vanilla panna cotta with rhubarb sorbet.
Cheltenham’s Michelin starred restaurant is one of the finest places to dine in the entire country. Run by a husband and wife team – David and Helen Everitt-Matthias, Le Champignon Sauvage celebrates its 32nd year in business in 2019.
The restaurant prides itself on being unpretentious, featuring brightly coloured walls, comfortable chairs and generously sized tables along with a refined menu where dishes include roasted wood pigeon with black pudding cream, potato and fig terrine and choucroute of kohlrabi; and halibut with cep mushroom cream, baby parsnips, chestnuts and black kale.

The restaurant and deli, based in The Corn Hall, was launched in 2008 by chef James ‘Bob’ Parkinson and is now run by executive chef Ethan Rodgers.
The venue offers breakfast and lunch every day, with evening dinner service available on Friday and Saturday nights, giving an evening at Made by Bob an exclusive feel you’re sure to remember.
Led by Ellenborough Park’s executive chef Andrew Birch, the five-star Cotswold hotel offers an à la carte menu alongside an indulgent six-course tasting menu with a vegetarian alternative.
The menu includes dishes such as Norfolk quail with pumpkin, savoury granola, sage beurre noisette; wild brill with smoked bacon, grelot onion, ceps and mustard velouté; and millefeuille of dark chocolate cremeux, with orange and passion fruit ice cream.
The Daffodil Cheltenham is an independent restaurant and bar, with a memorable art-deco theme. Guests will be wowed by its sweeping staircase and glamourous Hollywood-style entrance reception.
The venue was refurbished by renowned designer Laurence Llewellyn Bowen, who’s created a stunning space to enjoy fine food, with a tempting range of menus including Sunday lunch, à la carte and a bespoke steak menu.
The Lygon Arms in Broadway offers a number of different dining spaces to suit all tastes, and provides laid-back dining in effortlessly stylish surroundings.
Famed for its Wellington Sundays, the venue can provide fine dining alongside more relaxed options for pizza lovers and families looking for a delicious weekend roast.
