Cheltenham's Lumière has received its first Michelin Star in March 2023.

Cheltenham’s reputation as a first-rate foodie destination continues to grow with the news that Lumière has received One Michelin Star in the brand-new Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland 2023.

Revealed in a glittering awards ceremony at Silverstone on Monday 27 March 2023, the petite British restaurant with a huge local fan base becomes Cheltenham’s second Michelin Star restaurant.

It joins Le Champignon Sauvage, which maintained its Michelin Star for another year, in an exclusive group of Gloucestershire restaurants with Michelin Stars in 2023.

Lumière is one of 20 restaurants in the UK to have been newly-awarded One Michelin Star in 2023; three restaurants were awarded new Two Michelin Stars; and four restaurants received new Michelin Green Stars.

Owned and run by husband-and-wife team, Helen and Jon Howe, the Michelin Star is the latest award Lumière has received since opening in January 2009. It has also won AA Restaurant of the Year for England; 3AA Rosettes; and has been listed amongst the Top 20 Restaurants in the UK by Hardens; with Jon shortlisted for Restaurateur of the Year by The Caterer, too.

The Michelin inspectors said: ‘In Cheltenham, Lumière shows how hard work can pay off – for over 14 years the inspectors have witnessed the cooking maturing and are so pleased to be able to now give it a Michelin Star.’
