The Outdoor Inn announces huge 2020 transformation

Cheltenham's outdoor bar, The Outdoor Inn, will open in 2020 with a new shipping-container design, meaning it can remain open year-round, thanks plans approved by the borough council.

Promising a completely refreshed look for 2020, Cheltenham’s popular outdoor bar, The Outdoor Inn, will be transformed through the installation of two shipping containers, which have been given the go ahead by council planning teams this week.

The two containers will be built at the site on Cheltenham’s High Street and will house a new bar, space to seat 20 people, and will have adjustable hydraulic sides. This allows the containers to open up to provide more undercover space, while still maintaining the bar’s feeling of being outdoors.

The fully heated unit will be installed in January 2020, and is set to open by mid-February. But it does mean that the venue’s horsebox will have to be put away to make room for additional outdoor seating.

Since the Outdoor Inn’s launch back in March 2019 to coincide with the Cheltenham Festival, the team has always been forced to close when rain has struck, or on particularly chilly days. The new containers will mean that the bar can be open year-round.

A previous plan to install a bus on the site was rejected by Cheltenham Borough Council, despite the team at The Outdoor Inn being donated a bus in July 2019. The bus has since been donated to Robinswood Primary School in Gloucester to be used as an outdoor bus.
