The hugely popular Gloucestershire-based Giffords Circus has scooped a prestigious Guild of Food Writers Award for its Giffords Circus cookbook, this June 2021.

The book, called The Giffords Circus Cookbook: Recipes & Stories from a Magical Circus Restaurant, was penned by the late Nell Gifford and Circus Sauce head chef Ols Halas and published by Quadrille in 2020, with images taken by the world-famous photographer, David Loftus – who has worked with the likes of Jamie Oliver and Rachel Khoo.

Full of Nell’s magical stories and recipes from the travelling Circus Sauce restaurant, the book proved popular with circus fans and home cooks alike, with it now taking home the coveted General Cookbook Award from the Guild of Food Writers.

When the book was shortlisted, Ols Halas said: ‘I am absolutely stoked to be shortlisted for this prestigious award. Nell would be so proud.’

Announcing the win on the Giffords Circus Facebook page on Wednesday 23 June 2021, a statement said: ‘We are completely biased, but the cookbook is wonderful, weaving Nell’s beautiful writing and stories of Giffords Circus, with Ols most amazing recipes from Circus Sauce… This is for you Nell’.
