Gloucestershire’s award-winning chippy, Simpsons Fish and Chips, hooked first ‘plaice’ in the first episode of new BBC TV show, Britain’s Top Takeaways, which aired on Monday 9 May 2022.

Battling against four other fish and chip shops from across the UK, Bonny and Vic, who run Simpsons, placed joint first in the creative cooking show, sharing the crown with Adam and Amber from Hirds’ Family Fishery in Huddersfield.

Serving up their standout dishes to five judging families, the county’s chippy received high praise; particularly for its gluten-free fish batter, which was commended for creating a lighter and crispier texture.

Bonny Ritchie, founder of Simpsons, said: ‘We’re so proud that our food is as well loved by others. It was some tough competition but we’re really pleased with the result!’

Simpsons has three fish and chip shops across Gloucestershire in Cheltenham, Stroud and Gloucester and has won multiple awards for its food – including Takeaway of the Year in the 2020 SoGlos Gloucestershire Lifestyle Awards.

Britain’s Top Takeaways continues on BBC Two on Monday nights at 8pm, with Simpsons’ victory episode available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
