Hidden within the grounds of the stunning Gloucester Catherdral, lies The Monk’s Kitchen. This café and tea room serves everything from afternoon tea and sandwiches, right through to pies and cake.
Situated just off the west walk of the cathedral’s cloisters, the café is open daily. Boasting a top food hygiene rating of five, visitors can enjoy a light bite or a filling lunch, safe in the knowledge that their meal has been prepared to the highest of standards.
Visitors shouldn’t miss the chance to try The Monk’s Kitchen’s famous Pilgrim Pie. The recipe draws inspiration from the lives of the Benedictine Monks who once lived at Gloucester Cathedral. Made up of hogget lamb, onion, garlic, white beans, herbs and honey-roasted carrots, this triangular treat is one you shouldn’t miss!
In 2018 The Monk’s Kitchen started using recyclable cups and straws in its efforts to be more environmentally conscious. In addition, the café also recycles all glass, tins, plastic and cardboard.
This delightful café is open all-year-round, closing only for four religious holidays throughout the year; Good Friday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
