Affinity Beauty is a Cheltenham beauty salon with a difference. There’s no waiting room and no clinical atmosphere, your appointment time is yours and yours alone, and treatments are enjoyed in a warm and welcoming environment.
From a classic hot stone massage to an ultra modern HydroPeptide facial, a visit to Affinity Beauty in Cheltenham provided a trio of results: an invigorated body, glowing skin and a sure promise to return.
Situated on Cheltenham’s lively Promenade, you’d be forgiven for thinking Affinity Beauty’s convenient location might also mean a modicum of noise, but there wasn’t even a hint of hubbub as the scent of oils and the smiling staff beckoned me inside the tranquil third floor spa.
With a catalogue of options to choose from, and feeling a little underprepared for questions including: ‘What do you want us to work on?’, ‘What ailments do you have?’ and ‘Should we particularly work on your back, neck, arms, legs, toes..?’ I put myself into the more than capable hands of the award-winning therapist Angelika – who prescribed the full body hot stone massage using detoxifying oil, priced at £47.
Led on a plump bed and wrapped in a large purple towel which fitted in nicely with the regal purple theme of the spa, I quickly relaxed in preparation of the 60 minute massage that promised to refresh the skin, detox the body, and improve circulation.
For the first 25 minutes I laid on my back on a line of hot stones that were wrapped in a towel. And while initially puzzled what lying on rocks would achieve, the toasty sensation spread up my spine and warmed my muscles in preparation for the back massage. With hot pebbles placed between my toes too, it made for a pleasant top-to-toe experience, literally.
Turning over onto my front, Angelika got to work on my back. And while I thought I was generally pretty nimble and relaxed, I was surprised when she came across numerous knots and got to work on them immediately. With a soft tropical soundtrack playing, I was sent into an almost comatose state.
Awakened softly, it was a nice touch that after I got dressed, Angelika took the time to sit down and explain exactly what she had done, how I was to prevent the knots from reoccurring and how I should avoid stimulants such as coffee to help detox my body further. Not only did I receive a fantastically relaxing treatment, but I also learnt that massages are great for maintaining health too.
Drifting out of the spa I felt and even smelt as if I’d just stepped out of a warm shower, and not even the bite of the early winter air could shock my rested system. Plus, I had the best night’s sleep that I doubt even a storm could have stirred me from.
Eager to test out another of Affinity Beauty’s bevy of treatments, I booked in the very next day for an intriguing-sounding HydroPeptide facial. With 22 different types of protein in the products, including collagen, this treatment is said to be ‘the future of Botox’ offering all the benefits minus the needles! And Affinity Beauty is the only spa in Cheltenham that offers this unique American import.
Again, I felt like a bit of an amateur as Angelika was shocked that my daily skin routine consisted of washing my face in the shower! But, with some expert advice I opted for a tailored HydroPeptide Brightening facial, costing £55, which is said to even out, lighten and brighten all skin types, with anti-oxidants protecting against further damage.
The facial lasted 60 minutes, which, again, flew by in one of Affinity Beauty’s two spacious and light treatment rooms. Using a range of HydroPeptide products, including cleansing balm, refreshing tonic and moisturiser, the tingling sensation pleasantly danced on my face making my skin feel refreshed.
Finished off with a bit of plumping lip balm, I felt like a new women. With instantly clearer skin, a bright smile and a face that felt like it was literally glowing.
And despite indulging in the odd coffee – or four a day – I can safely say the treatments had a prolonged effect: with easier sleeping and a few less knots to worry about, as well as softer and noticeably brighter skin lasting more than a week.
With not one, but two terrific treatments hitting the mark, while promises to ditch caffeine and invest in a better daily skincare ritual might not be maintained, the vow to return to Affinity Beauty will be an easy one to keep.
