From quirky bars and traditional Mexican eats to boutique barbers and microbreweries, SoGlos rounds up the most exciting Gloucestershire openings to make a beeline for this month.

Featuring everything from microbreweries and boutique barbers to independent restaurants and speakeasy bars, Gloucestershire is teeming with new openings popping up all over the county this month. 

To give you a taste of what's coming, SoGlos rounds up the most exciting Gloucestershire openings in November 2023... 

Clavell & Hind Microbrewery in Cheltenham 

Inspired by Gloucestershire's most infamous highwaymen, John Clavell and Captain James Hind, who pillaged the coaching routes of the south west, Clavell & Hind is opening its new taproom on Elmstone Business Park in Cheltenham on Friday 10 November 2023.

From 4pm on opening day, guests can savour its finest folklore-inspired brews such as the Liberty IPA, Coachman golden ale and Blunderbuss pale ale, in a cosy and welcoming atmosphere.

Sweeney Tom Barbershop in Charlton Kings

Offering a 'revolutionary transition between precision barbering and contemporary hairdressing', Sweeney Toms is opening a new premises on London Road in Charlton Kings on Wednesday 8 November 2023. 

Due to its remarkable growth over the last five years, the business has been able to expand to a new location, with bookings available online now. 

Bella Mia Pizza @ No.1 at Gloucester Food Dock 

With Gloucester's highly anticipated £3.5 million Food Dock taking shape, Bella Mia Pizza @ No.1 is opening this month, with its authentic, wood-fired, Neapolitan pizza and cocktails on offer from early- to mid-November 2023.

Its 1920s Gatsby-inspired cocktail lounge even features a reclaimed oak floor from the original set of the 1964 Mary Poppins film!

Wholly Gelato at Gloucester Food Dock 

One of the most popular ice cream producers in Gloucestershire, Wholly Gelato opened a new premises at Gloucester's Food Dock earlier this month, offering fans the chance to get a cone or tub of delicious local gelato without trekking out to the farm. 

Alongside scoops and shakes, which are handmade on the Hobbs family farm using milk from its herd of dairy cows, Wholly Gelato will also be adding breakfast waffles, gelato buns, cakes and sundaes, smoothies, as well as hot and cold drinks to its menu — plus a brand-new vending machine, stocked full of fresh, free-range milk. 

Strip Steak Bar at Gloucester Food Dock 

Relocating from Stroud to Gloucester Food Dock this November 2023, Strip Steak Bar is bringing premium quality Black Angus strip steak at affordable prices to Gloucester, with a fast-paced, casual dining setting and meals available to eat in or take away.

Signature dishes include premium sirloin strip steak with beef dripping fries; and strip steak wrap with crispy onions and Cheddar sauce; as well as a non-meat option featuring a special vegan steak. While an official opening date is yet to be confirmed, the restaurant is expected to open later this month.

Elote at Gloucester Food Dock 

Elote is inspired by trips to the USA and Mexico and will bring a celebration of true Mexican cuisine to the city when it opens at Gloucester Food Dock — with dishes like elote corn, ceviche and pastor tacos on offer, in a cosy terracotta-coloured space.

The business will buy specialist ingredients direct from Mexican grocers to provide an authentic experience, similar to what you could expect in homes and restaurants across the country. An official opening date is yet to be confirmed, but doors to the Mexican eatery are expected to be open by the end of November 2023. 

Chuck at Gloucester Food Dock 

London-based burger restaurant Chuck is another name joining the impressive lineup of new openings at Gloucester Food Dock this November 2023, offering menu items from its signature Chuck and Cheese beef burgers to the Miss Piggy pulled pork with double beef; Mexican-themed chicken burgers; and a range of vegan burgers including the Bandito black bean patty, plant-based No Clucking Katsu and Jack The Fruit.

An official opening date is yet to be confirmed, but the burger joint is expected to open by the end of November 2023. 

Hetty’s Place at Gloucester Food Dock   

A Gloucester institution which started from a flat overlooking where Gloucester Food Dock now stands, Hetty's Place is due to open its doors later this November 2023.

Offering a fantastic spot for brunch, fudging good brownies and coffee, Hetty’s Place is ‘an evolution’ of Hetty's Kitchen's first cafe at Morelands Trading Estate — which will remain open — and marks a welcome return to Gloucester Docks for owner Henrietta Kitt.

Sibling Distillery's 'Our House' bar at Gloucester Food Dock 

Aiming to open by the end of November 2023, Sibling Distillery's 'Our House' bar will be welcoming revellers to enjoy a variety of exciting cocktails and palette pleasing wines at Gloucester Food Dock. 

The bar's curated wine list and cocktail menu and will change each month, so there's always something new to discover, with inspiration coming from the great many cocktails the team has had the pleasure of trying over the years working with popular gin brand, Sibling.
