A new technical manager for Persimmon Homes, who started her career as an apprentice, will play a critical role in managing the design, engineering and technical aspects of new homes in Tewkesbury.
Lauren Llewellyn Hughes joins the ranks of the accredited five-star builder, for its Severn Valley business, where she will coordinate the works between land acquisition, planning, architectural design, engineering and development project teams.
She will ensure housing developments in Tewkesbury, Cam and Harry Stoke are technically sound, compliant and deliverable on time and budget.
Her career began when she left school and undertook a year apprenticeship with BAM Nuttall as an engineering quantity surveyor.
Over the course of her apprenticeship she worked at Hinkley Power Station, on a flood alleviation scheme in Exeter and a beach
regeneration scheme in Dawlish Warren, all whilst working towards her Higher
National Certificate.
Lauren started in the house building industry as a technical
trainee at Taylor Wimpey Cardiff, before becoming a technical coordinator at
Crest Nicholson Bristol and, most recently, a senior technical coordinator for
Barratt Redrow Bristol.
Persimmon Homes Severn Valley currently has live sites at Tewkesbury and Wotton-under-Edge in Gloucestershire as well as Cribbs Causeway and Yatton in Bristol along with Backwell and Weston-super-Mare in Somerset.
Lauren said: 'I always knew I didn’t want a 'normal' office job or a job working permanently outdoors so this role is my idea of the perfect mix as I get to do both.
'I kind of fell into this industry by accident but now
couldn’t picture doing anything different and I love that my role always
requires a good team and having a good team means outcomes are better for both
customers and colleagues.
'There are opportunities every single day to learn something
new and better my knowledge. A favourite saying of mine is 'if I don’t know
the answer, I know someone who will' and that comes down to having a great
team, a great culture and great consultants who all have the same goal.
'I have felt extremely welcomed by everyone at Severn Valley and can’t wait to get stuck in.'
Persimmon Homes Severn Valley technical director Joshua Ashwin added: 'It’s great to have Lauren join us at an exciting time for the business, especially with an exciting mix of live and forthcoming sites, where she can play a critical role for us.
'Persimmon wants to leave a positive and lasting legacy wherever we build and that means constructing good homes and infrastructure on site in a timely and safe manner and I am pleased Lauren will be a part of that important delivery.'
