Gloucestershire College staff and students are celebrating the results of a positive Ofsted inspection this February 2026, meeting the expected standard in all 15 areas of assessment, carried out under the education watchdog’s new framework.
The report, published on 26 February 2026, marks the first time the college has been reviewed under the revised system and places it among the first three further education institutions nationally to undergo inspection in this wave.
Inspectors found that young learners grow in confidence as they apply new knowledge and skills throughout their studies. Students were seen to become increasingly independent, supported by engaging lessons and practical learning experiences. The report also notes that learners behave well, show respect and demonstrate positive attitudes towards their education.
Facilities across the college, including professional-standard classrooms and workshops equipped with industry tools and technologies, were highlighted as supporting learners’ preparation for further study or employment.
Adult provision was described as welcoming and respectful, with experienced teachers delivering inclusive and supportive sessions that help individuals work towards their future goals.
Apprentices were found to develop substantial theoretical knowledge alongside practical skills relevant to their roles. Inspectors praised the strong subject expertise of teachers and assessors, with training closely aligned to employer needs.
The report also acknowledges improvements in support for learners with special educational needs and / or disabilities, with tailored assistance enabling full participation and strong progress. Efforts to remove barriers for disadvantaged learners were similarly recognised, aimed at ensuring all learners can access and benefit from education.
Matthew Burgess, principal and chief executive of Gloucestershire College, said: 'We are so pleased with the Ofsted report as it recognises the ongoing hard work of the staff and the progress made by our learners. Everyone works so hard to support all our learners to develop their confidence and resilience in readiness to be successful in their next steps.
'The inspection forms part of the first wave of further education reviews under Ofsted’s updated framework, which introduces changes to how colleges are assessed and graded.'
