There is good news for anyone looking to forge a career in engineering and manufacturing, with one of Gloucestershire and the UK’s leading firms in those sectors announcing plans to recruit 180 more staff.

Wotton-under-Edge-based Renishaw recorded sales of £565 million in 2021. Powering on in a dramatic recovery from the lows of the pandemic, Renishaw hopes to take on 150 staff at its bases in Gloucestershire and South Wales.

If successful, it will add to the 900 new faces which have already joined its global operations since 2021. Two hundred and fifty of those have been recruited since the start of 2022 – including a successful UK drive earlier this year to recruit 80 apprentices.

Chris Pockett, head of communications for Renishaw, said: ‘We are currently recruiting for more than 140 jobs in the UK, the majority of which are based at our sites in Gloucestershire.

‘As we stated in our trading statement issued last month, we are continuing to see strong demand for our product lines on a global basis and we currently have a strong order book.’

The new roles are for positions including application engineers, marketing communications executives, software engineers and design group leads as well as jobs in electronics, including mechatronics engineering, design engineering and also assembly operators.

Filling the vacancies would push the total number of staff worldwide at the FTSE 250 Gloucestershire headquartered firm to well above 5,000 in 37 countries.

The company supplies products used for applications from jet engine and wind turbine manufacturing, through to dentistry and brain surgery.
