Celebrating a lifetime of dedication to one of the UK's most iconic historical landmarks, Elizabeth, Lady Ashcombe of Sudeley Castle and Gardens has been honoured with a prestigious global award.

Chatelaine of the castle for more than 50 years – making her the longest-serving custodian in its 1,000-year history – Lady Ashcombe was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2025 Women's Business Awards in London this December 2025, recognising her lifelong commitment not only to heritage but also the arts, conservation and charitable causes.

The annual awards, now in its 12th year, is a 'global celebration recognising the achievements, innovation and impact of women in business', bringing together business leaders, entrepreneurs, founders, professionals and changemakers from around the world.

American by birth, Lady Ashcombe first arrived at Sudeley in 1962 to marry Mark Dent-Brocklehurst, whose family has owned the castle since the 1830s.

Following Mark's tragic early death, Lady Ashcombe has made it her life's work to maintain the castle as a family home and much-loved visitor attraction.

By opening its doors to the public, she's enabled more than four million visitors to share in an iconic piece of English history; and has ensured its preservation for future generations.

She's also been responsible for establishing some of its most popular tours, events and exhibits over the years and has helped promote British heritage in the USA, too.

The presenters of the award said: 'Lady Ashcombe’s name is woven into the very fabric of British heritage and community life. As custodian of the iconic Sudeley Castle and Gardens, she has not only preserved one of our nation’s most treasured landmarks but has also opened its doors and heart to the public, ensuring its stories and beauty continue to inspire generations.

'Her work extends far beyond the walls of the castle. Through her dedication to the arts, conservation and charitable causes, she has shown what it means to use one’s platform for good – nurturing culture, empowering others, and bringing people together.'

'Lady Ashcombe, your vision and generosity have built bridges between history and modernity, tradition and progress, privilege and purpose.'

Elizabeth, Lady Ashcombe commented of the award: '54 years ago I started looking after Sudeley Castle – I'm still there, I'm still amazed by it and this is a real, real privilege to have won this award.'
