One of Gloucestershire's most remarkable attractions, Tewkesbury Abbey, has appointed a new chief operating officer this October 2025.
Will Jones joins the Tewkesbury Abbey team from Gloucester Cathedral, where he is currently the head of operations and has served as interim chief operating officer and head of visitor experience.
Prior to his role in Gloucester, he led the visitor experience team at Bath Abbey, so he brings a wealth of ecclesiastical and heritage experience to the role.
As COO, he will responsible for leading the senior management team at the Norman abbey in delivering the Parochial Church Council's strategy, developing a strategic business plan and overseeing future proposals for the historic building.
Will said: 'I am delighted and excited to be stepping into the role of chief operating officer at Tewkesbury Abbey. Born and raised in Gloucestershire, I’ve always felt a strong connection to this area and its remarkable heritage and communities.
'The abbey has long been a place I’ve admired and it feels a huge privilege to now be part of its story. I look forward to working alongside the staff, volunteers, congregation and wider community to make sure the abbey continues to be a welcoming place for all, while also planning carefully for the future. I can’t wait to contribute my energy, skills, and enthusiasm to such an extraordinary place.'
Reverend Canon Nick Davies, vicar at Tewkesbury Abbey, added: 'Will comes with huge experience gained in both cathedral and major church contexts and is also a member of his parish church near Berkeley.
'He joins us at an exciting time as we develop the life of the abbey as a thriving Christian community, as a shared cultural space and an important heritage destination.'
