Music lovers in Gloucestershire have the chance to become a part of Gloucester Cathedral's incredible musical history this September 2026.
The cathedral is hosting a special online auction giving people the opportunity to bid for a sponsorship of one of the last remaining stops on its new organ.
Unveiled in July 2026 at a special dedication service, the new organ has 3,338 pipes, 91 stops, four manuals and a full pedalboard designed specifically for the cathedral's unique acoustics, housed within the original 17th century organ case, which has been lovingly restored.
Every stop controls a group of pipes with their own distinctive tone, which combine with others to produce the organ's unmistakeable sound.
Gloucester Cathedral's assistant director of music, Jonathan Hope, said: 'Please do place a bid for a chance to sponsor one of the stops on our magnificent new organ. In doing so, you will become forever connected with the organ and all that it will bring to the cathedral in the years ahead.
'By sponsoring part of the organ, you will also be supporting the work of our singing and organ academies, helping us share music with as many different people as possible across the county.
'We are thrilled to be sharing the full voice of the new organ with audiences this year and celebrating together its magnificence and versatility.'
Sponsors will each receive a personalised certificate and their name permanently engraved on a pipe within their chosen stop, as well as an invitation to a special thank you event with members of the cathedral's music team and priority booking for an organ concert later this year.
With the new organ being one of the cathedral's most significant investments in music for decades, sponsoring a stop also allows music lovers to leave a lasting legacy by supporting music-making at Gloucester Cathedral for generations to come.
