Welsh football legend, Robbie Savage, is taking the reins at Forest Green Rovers as its new first team manager.

The world's greenest football club officially welcomed Robbie to the team on Tuesday 1 July 2025, where he starts work immediately with a training session at the club's Candriam Training Centre.

Robbie made 346 Premier League appearances for clubs including Leicester City, Birmingham City and Derby County, as well as 39 appearances for the Welsh national side, during his professional playing career.

He also helped Macclesfield FC secure a promotion to the National League North after a record-breaking run as head coach, with the team winning the Northern Premier League with 109 points and 109 goals.

Robbie said: 'I feel I have an opportunity to develop a squad to create an attacking brand of football – an aggressive form of football to try and get Forest Green back into the EFL.

'I want a fast, exciting style but the most important thing is to win games.'

Robbie's appointment comes after Forest Green Rovers announced a new signing to the first team, with forward Yahaya Bamba joining from Eastbourne Borough FC, as well as new contracts for defender Jordan Moore-Taylor and goalkeeper Fiachra Pagel.

Fixtures for the 2025/26 season are due to be announced on Wednesday 9 July 2025, with the first matchday due to take place on Saturday 9 August 2025.
