From Monday 1 to Sunday 7 September 2025, anyone named Katherine can visit Sudeley Castle and Gardens for free.

Sudeley Castle and Gardens is inviting people named Katherine to visit for free this September 2025, in celebration of its most famous resident, Queen Katherine Parr.

Anybody whose first name is Katherine, regardless of how they spell it, can visit Sudeley Castle for free from Monday 1 to Sunday 7 September 2025.

While exploring the historic attraction, Katherines can learn all about their namesake Queen Katherine Parr and her life at Sudeley, including seeing her prayer book, handwritten letters and even a lock of her hair in the Castle Rooms; following in her footsteps around the spectacular gardens; and paying their respects at her final resting place inside St Mary's Chapel.

From acting as regent general while Henry was at war in France, to reconciling the king with his daughters Mary and Elizabeth – both of whom went on to become queens of England by birthright – Katherine played an important role in English history.

As part of the castle's week-long celebration of her, there are expert talks taking place every weekday in the church where she is laid to rest; while on Sunday, historic reenactors bring Katherine's courage and intellect to life with performances in full Tudor regalia, as well as meet and greets within the grounds.

There is also a specially curated trail to follow, walking visitors through key moments of her remarkable life.

Sudeley Castle is the only private residence in the UK to have a queen buried within its grounds – a fact made even more exceptional with Katherine being the only wife of King Henry VIII to survive her marriage.

Tickets to Sudeley Castle cost £23 for adults, £10 for children or £58 for a family of two adults and up to three children, with a 10 per cent discount when pre-booking online via its website.

Katherines don't need to pre-book, but must bring valid photo ID bearing their name to receive free entry.
