Despite lockdown easing being delayed until July 2021, audiences will still return to the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham in June 2021, as the hit musical Priscilla Queen Of The Desert kicks off its UK tour to reduced audiences.

After the Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s latest announcement to delay lifting social distancing restrictions, the show’s first two weeks in Cheltenham will play at 50 per cent capacity.

Everyman Theatre chief executive and co-producer of Priscilla Queen Of The Desert, Mark Goucher, said: ‘It’s an obvious blow to the theatre and the cast that we won’t be able to welcome everyone we were hoping to play to, but the entire staff of the Everyman Theatre is doing everything possible to ensure the show goes on, in the safest environment possible, while minimising the disappointment to our valued guests.’

The latest delay also means that hit musical Hairspray, due to open on Monday 5 July 2021, will now be rescheduled to early 2022 to play to full capacity audiences.

But there’s a summer of entertainment still to be had at the theatre after restrictions are set to ease in July 2021 when the Everyman fully reopens with Mischief Theatre’s award-winning comedy The Play That Goes Wrong on Tuesday 20 July 2021, which runs until Sunday 1 August 2021.

Everyman Theatre box office staff will be in touch with ticket holders for Priscilla Queen of the Desert via email in the next few days.
