Become a wetland hero with Slimbridge Wetland Centre’s free app, launching in June 2021.

Families can now experience the wonders of Slimbridge Wetland Centre in a whole new way, thanks to the launch of its Wetland Heroes app.

Created with Bristol-based animation studio Aardman, the free app has been designed to enhance the visitor experience at Slimbridge – helping families and friends to reconnect with nature as they explore everything the WWT reserve has to offer.

The interactive app encourages visitors to explore the Slimbridge site through fact-finding missions and challenges, delving deeper into Gloucestershire’s very own wetland paradise to discover its lesser-explored areas.

It’s a great tool for first-time visitors and firm fans alike, giving families the chance to take on different challenges and learn something new each time they visit.

It was created as part of the Slimbridge 75 project, which received funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and enabled Slimbridge to collaborate with Aardman on digitally enhancing its visitor experience.

Beautifully illustrated with wetland-inspired designs, the app provides a digital guide to all things Slimbridge, with markers dotted around the site to guide visitors on their virtual journey.

Children can become wetland experts, hearing the sounds of Slimbridge through the app as well as finding out impressive facts about the varied wildlife that live and visit the site throughout the year.

Not to mention, there are plenty of in-app photo opportunities to capture some special family memories – which grown-ups can share on social media using #WetlandHeroes, too.

The Wetland Heroes app is free to download on Apple and Android devices.
