Acclaimed French director Jean-Pierre Jeunet's new film Violette is having its UK premiere at this year's FilmChelt.

Cheltenham is hosting the UK premiere of Amélie director Jean-Pierre Jeunet's anticipated new film this November 2026.

FilmChelt is offering two exclusive screenings of Violette as part of this year's festival, which runs from Friday 30 October until Sunday 8 November 2026.

Violette is based on the bestselling French novel Fresh Water for Flowers by Valérie Perrin, and stars Leïla Bekhti and Matthias Schoenaerts.

The story is set in the French countryside where cemetery caretaker, Violette Toussaint, lives a quiet life, until it is disrupted by the arrival of a local police chief with an unusual request, which unearths long-buried secrets and forces Violette to confront her past – and rediscover the possibility of love.

Transforming the event space at HUB8MX into a 100-seat cinema for the duration of the festival, it invites audiences to see 'one of this year's most anticipated European films' on the big screen before anyone else, with its screenings of the acclaimed French director's new work taking place ahead of its wider UK cinematic release.

The UK premiere of Violette takes place on Friday 6 November 2026, with an additional opportunity to see the film on Saturday 7 November 2026.

Tickets cost £15 for general admission and are available now via the FilmChelt website.
