It's not open for another fortnight, but SoGlos dived in for a sneak peek of the stunning new pub from the Daylesford Stays portfolio - The Bell at Charlbury.

This former Greene King pub has undergone a major transformation, with a makeover that celebrates traditional craftsmanships from across Gloucestershire and beyond.

One dining room is adorned with pressed flowers from Ukraine, a bed headboard is upholstered in snooker velvet that was also used in one of Prince William's jackets and, of course, there's the outstanding organic Daylesford farm produce from Kingham that makes every dish a delight.

And it's not just the carefully considered interiors that have the wow factor — the one acre outdoor space holds its own too.

There's a front terrace overlooking village streets, a rear terrace with a distinct continental feel, and an extensive tree-lined gravel parking space that leads down to a huge pub garden with its own shed bar, stretch tent, stream, bridge and swing.

The expansive site also includes a beautifully converted barn at the back of the pub for private dining and events, as well as additional seating for the 40-cover pub at anticipated busy weekends.

Upstairs, each of the 12 bedrooms has its own distinct personality, with restored vintage furniture including four-poster bed fabrics, hand-painted wallpaper and lampshades from local artisans. One of the bedrooms features artwork gifted from owner Carole Bamford's own home.

There's a hidden TV screen behind oak paneled walls in one dining room, open fires for when the nights draw in and a uniquely stocked bar packed with unusual spirits including banana liqueur.

It all contributes to a relaxed atmosphere, with friendly, chatty staff wearing Bell T-shirts as uniform, with a cheeky 'ding dong' slogan adorning the back.

We tried a tasting menu of what's in store and were blown away by the fresh flavours, care and creativity in each one. Wootton Estate venison carpaccio with picked walnut would be top of our list for a return visit.

Owned by Carole Bamford, The Bell is the fourth pub in the Daylesford Stays portfolio that also includes The Wild Rabbit in Kingham, The Fox at Oddington and The Maytime Inn in Burford.

Opening on Sunday 17 September 2023, it's one new opening not to miss!
