Cheltenham’s new Mexican restaurant, Cantina Del Barrio, recruited local hospitality experts by word of mouth.

The latest addition to Cheltenham’s rapidly evolving culinary scene has confirmed that fans of Mexican food can get their hands on its tacos, quesadillas and tequila cocktails as soon as next week… olé!

Cantina Del Barrio on Bath Road will open its doors for the first time on Wednesday 28 September 2022.

Designed to be a laid-back spot for chilling with friends or family, the new ‘neighbourhood kitchen’ promises plenty of fresh, wholesome dishes to look forward to.

As well as putting its unique spin on street food staples like tacos, quesadillas and empanadas, Cantina Del Barrio’s Mexican-inspired Buddha bowls – or Barrio Bowls – should be high on your list to try.

Joining the selection of ‘antojitos’ (appetisers) and ‘platos fuertes’ (traditional Mexican mains) will be an array of exciting drinks, including 16 mezcals and tequilas.

Cantina Del Barrio is the third venue to be opened by local businessmen William and Andrew Coates, who are also behind Bath Road Beers and Sandford Park Alehouse.

William said: 'We are so passionate about hospitality and have talked about opening a new vibrant venue that is celebrated as much for its food as it is for drink, for many years.

'Whilst my background is in drinks, I’ve always been a real foodie, and think maybe I was a chef in a former life, so this really is a passion project for me.'

The restaurant, on the site of what was a TSB bank, will be open for brunch and dinner from Wednesday to Sunday and closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, with bookings already being taken.
