Cheltenham Racecourse’s Festival Trials Day has been abandoned.

The event was set to take place on Saturday 30 January 2021 and was the last meet before the Cheltenham Festival in March.

However, as a result of heavy rain and a forecast of snow set to fall on the county, Cheltenham Racecourse has announced that the event has been cancelled.

An inspection was due to take place at 2pm today, Friday 29 January 2021, but the Racecourse revealed the news earlier on their social media.

A post on Cheltenham Racecourse’s Twitter feed said: ‘Racing Abandoned. Following an inspection with the BHA’s Senior Inspector of Courses, unfortunately tomorrow’s raceday has been abandoned as the course is waterlogged and uraceable.

‘With rain and snow forecast, there is no prospect of an improvement ahead of racing.’

The meet was due to take place behind closed doors with no crowds following the current national lockdown.

The next event is the Cheltenham Festival which is due to start Tuesday 16 March and end on Friday 19 March 2021 with Gold Cup Day.
