Charlotte Harris and Jessica Oliver from Gloucestershire are celebrating after smashing the world record for female pairs rowing across the Atlantic.

First-time rower, Jessica Oliver, from Dowdeswell has become the world’s fastest woman to row across the Atlantic Ocean.

Taking on the Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge with her friend, Charlotte Harris, the pair made it across the ocean in 45 days, 7 hours and 25 minutes.

Setting off from the Canary Islands on Sunday 12 December 2021, the pair rowed 3,000 miles and arrived in Antigua last week.

Oliver, who is 29, took on the challenge to raise money for Shelter and Women’s Aid and has collected £42,000 in sponsorship so far.

She said: ‘The support we got on social media and the generous donations spurred us on. Having had no rowing or ocean experience, we’re amazed we even completed the challenge, let alone set a new world record. It shows you really can do anything you put your mind to.’
