A new woodland with over 1,000 trees is being planted in Stroud

More than 1,000 trees are being planted at Salmon Springs in Stroud, to help restore woodland habitats in the area.

Salmon Springs in Stroud is becoming home to a new woodland this winter, as Stroud District Council and Stroud Valleys Project plant over 1,000 new trees there.

The land, owned by Stroud District Council and previously leased to a local farmer, will be transformed into a new woodland habitat with funding from Gloucestershire County Council’s tree fund and the Forestry Commission.

Volunteers for Stroud Valleys Project planted the first new tree at the site earlier in November 2021, following the United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP26 – with this latest tree planting project making an important contribution to Stroud District Council’s aim to make the area more climate friendly, naturally resilient and carbon neutral by 2030.

Councillor Chloe Turner, chair of Stroud District Council’s Environment Committee, said: ‘The council and Stroud Valleys Project is planting this area as part of its commitment to making the whole district carbon neutral by 2030.

‘The Climate Emergency will be addressed by positive actions, large and small, and I am pleased that this will help capture carbon.’
