Small organisations and charities in Gloucestershire can take advantage of a new cyber security training course from the National Cyber Security Centre at GCHQ in Cheltenham.

The free online training course is designed to be an accessible starting point for small organisations which don’t have an IT department or cyber security staff.

The NCSC says that 38 per cent of micro and small organisations have experienced a cyber security breach in the last 12 months, with the average cost of this being more than £8,000.

The new training guides participants through all the actions organisations and charities need to take to reduce the likelihood of becoming a victim of the most common cyber attacks.

Covering five key areas from backing up your organisation’s data correctly; protecting against malware; keeping devices secure; the importance of strong passwords; and defending your organisation against phishing.

The training is primarily aimed at SMEs, charities and the voluntary sector, but can be applied to any organisation.
