Jobs at one of Gloucestershire’s most famous factories are safe, despite owners Unilever announcing cuts across its business of up to 1,500 staff.
The consumer giant, which owns the Barnwood-based Walls Ice Cream factory, said the job cuts were part of a world-wide management restructuring programme.
It was quick to confirm that the estimated 300-plus staff at its Gloucester business, which makes the famous Cornetto and Magnum ice creams, were safe.
A statement from Unilever said: ‘The proposed new organisation model will result in a reduction in senior management roles of around 15 per cent and more junior management roles by five per cent, equivalent to around 1,500 roles globally. Changes will be subject to consultation.
‘We do not expect factory teams to be impacted by these changes.’
Unilever officially opened the Gloucester factory in 1962 and it could once claim to be the world’s second largest ice cream factory, employing over 1,000 staff.
