Gloucestershire organisations receive a boost from HRH The Princess Royal

One of Gloucestershire’s biggest businesses and one of its best-loved charities had their good work celebrated with a visit from HRH The Princess Royal, this January 2022.

Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal was the guest of honour at two very different Gloucestershire institutions on Tuesday 25 January 2022, dropping by to highlight their incredible achievements.

Major Cheltenham employer Mira Showers saw its new innovation facility, Space 100, officially opened by HRH The Princess Royal to mark its centenary.

Earlier the same day, the Royal party was in Gloucester to open a specialist centre for therapeutic activities and recreation at the Chamwell Centre beside The Milestone School, Longlevens.

Craig Baker, managing director of Kohler Mira, owner of the Mira brand, made sure it was a big day for another local charity too, presenting its charity partner Sue Ryder with a cheque for £105,000.

Baker said: ‘Celebrating 100 years of innovation is a significant milestone for the whole team at Mira Showers. To end the year with the launch of Space 100, and especially welcoming The Princess Royal for its official opening, is an absolute honour.’

Mira will use Space 100 to host events, forge closer community links and develop its ongoing work, promoting early careers through its apprenticeship programme.

Over at the Chamwell Centre in Longlevens, The Princess Royal met founder Dr Marie Owen, the charity’s benefactors and children from The Milestone School.

The centre was set up to benefit the physical and emotional wellbeing of both adults and children with disabilities and, with the help of businesses in Gloucestershire, it raised £5.1 million to design and build the purpose-built facilities.

It continues to rely on charitable funding and the generosity of the public, businesses and charitable trusts.
