Like a modem connecting all that is digital in the Gloucestershire business community, CyNam is uploading its annual cyber business showcase on Thursday 10 June 2021.

The significant networking group has hooked up with Cheltenham Science Festival this year to deliver its much-anticipated conference event, ‘CyNam 21.2 – Smart Cyber: Securing the IoT and the cities of the future’.

Richard Yorke, director at CyNam, said: ‘Our summer event promises to be full of interesting discussion around these challenges and how the UK’s cyber sector can safeguard smart cities from future breaches as well as showcasing emerging technology in this space.

‘If you have an interest in cyber, this is not one to be missed.’

Hazlewoods, BPE and Gloucestershire College are supporting the event with input from businesses like Field Effect, IBM, Oxford University and the University of Bristol, CGI, Configured Things, Awen Collective, ANGOKA, Cyber Defence Service and Ioetec.

Sessions will include: What Does a Welcoming and Trusting Smart City Look Like?; How to Build a Citizen Centred Smart City: Privacy, Resilience, Sustainability & Wellbeing; The Future of Cars: Are We Safe?; and What Makes a Smart City Smart.

Plus, there will be discussions on mitigating risk in the smart office; connecting cyber clusters across the country, as well as numerous cyber showcases and afternoon tea with the Ladies of Cheltenham Hacking Society.

The full line up is as follows…

• New developments in technology present fresh opportunities for the UK’s cyber security sector.

• CyNam has revealed their full line up for their next event, which will take place on June 10.

• The virtual event will explore solutions for securing the Internet of Things (IoT) and how cyber innovation can enable the smart cities of the future.

• The showcase will feature cyber-tech giants such as CGI, IBM and Field Effect.

The event includes CGI, Field Effect, Plexal and Ladies of Cheltenham Hacking Society amongst others. Featuring a series of keynote talks and panel sessions, breakout discussions and cyber showcases, the event will explore securing the Internet of Things (IoT) and how cyber can enable the smart cities of tomorrow.

The showcase will bring the best in the industry and academia together, allowing viewers to directly interact with thought leaders during the breakout discussions.

Highlights include an announcement from the National Cyber Security Centre and an expert panel featuring members from IBM, Field Effect, University of Bristol and Oxford University, answering the biggest questions surrounding smart cities, sustainability, community living and smart technology. Back by popular demand, the Student Showcase will invite four enthusiastic Gloucestershire students to discuss climate change and its relationship with technology.

The event will be a must watch television broadcast experience for industry professionals, career changers, students and people with an interest in cyber.

Held in partnership with the Cheltenham Science Festival, the showcase will be broadcasted live from Hub 8, a co-working space built for the cyber-tech community. The organisers have recently launched their Event Portal which will host the live broadcast, featuring a breakdown of the agenda and sponsors.

Registration is still open and the event is due to take place from 6pm to 8pm.
