Stroud Arts Festival is hosting an unmissable recital from the world's most-recorded classical artist as part of its 80th year celebrations this October 2026, featuring some of the most-celebrated cello compositions of all time.
What to expect from Raphael Wallfisch and Simon Callaghan in concert at Stroud Arts Festival
World-famous cellist Raphael Wallfisch is joined by acclaimed pianist Simon Callaghan for a performance of three distinctively different cello pieces, demonstrating their impressive versatility and virtuosity.
Audiences will be treated to Beethoven's 'Sonata in A major, Op. 69' – an energetic dialogue between cello and piano that's full of warmth; Rachmaninoff's 'Sonata in G Minor, Op. 19', which brings drama and darkness to the programme; and finally, Henriëtte Bosmans’ 'Three Impressions', which offers three understated but atmospheric pieces which are full of lyricism.
Combining subtlety, sensitvity, expressiveness and spirit, this compelling and contrasting selection from the cello repertoire, performed by two of the world's finest players, makes for a recital that music lovers in Gloucestershire won't want to miss.
