The Museum of Gloucester’s latest community exhibition is a colourful collection of Afrocentric art by talented Gloucester-based artist, Rizpah Amadasun.
Celebrating her recent acceptance to the Royal College of Art to study a Master’s in painting, She Has Rizzen is a brand-new exhibition featuring a variety of work from the self-taught artist, created over the last five years.
The installation of 30 pieces of artwork features vibrant, Afrocentric portrait paintings exploring the visceral presence of the human body, along with West African symbolism and the way it influences stories of belief, history and empowerment.
As well as being an artist, Rizpah is also a renowned spoken word poet and fashion designer, whose work explores themes of joy, love, heritage and her own lived experiences as an Anglo-African woman. She is a self-taught creative and will also be hosting a series of workshops and talks alongside the exhibition.
The exhibition will be on display in the community gallery at the Museum of Gloucester until November 2021 with She Has Rizzen being Rizpah’s first solo installation – having previously exhibited work at Birmingham Contemporary Art Gallery and The Wilson Art Gallery in Cheltenham.
Admission to She Has Rizzen is free, with donations encouraged.
