Its incredible group revenue of £3.969 billion means it takes the number one spot in the 2025 edition of the Top 100 Businesses in Gloucestershire, with an adjusted operating profit of £150.2 million recorded in its 2024 annual report.

Top engineering firm Spirax Group is headquartered in Cheltenham and employs an estimated 2,400 people in the UK and over 10,000 globally. Across its three businesses, the group’s operations include designing, engineering, manufacturing and selling ‘products and solutions that are essential to the efficient, safe and sustainable operation of industrial customers’ critical processes.’
It saw its revenue decrease from £1.682 billion in 2023 to £1.665 billion as stated in its annual report for 2024.

Another billion-pound business in Gloucestershire, wealth management company St. James's Place is once again one of the biggest companies in the county by turnover.
Headquartered in the Cotswold town of Cirencester, its last set of accounts shows a turnover of over £1.3 billion, up from £1.18 billion in December 2023 — due to epic success advising its clientele on money matters and investing.

Brockworth-headquartered public company Mears Group provides and manages thousands of homes for local and central government and is responsible for keeping over 750,000 social housing homes in the UK in good repair.
It has an estimated 5,500 employees nationwide and saw an incredible change in revenue in the year ending December 2023, with its revenue increasing by 14 per cent to hit over £1 billion; it also allocated £3.8 billion to the government’s Social Housing Decarbonisation fund and puts emphasis on providing accommodation and support to those seeking asylum in the UK.

Keeping its position in the top five, engineering giant Renishaw employs an estimated 5,165 people worldwide, including more than 300 apprentices and is a key player in a variety of sectors from aerospace to medicine.
According to its latest accounts, the Wotton-under-Edge-based firm reports a steadily held turnover of £691.3 million, a slight increase of 0.4 per cent from 2022.
PHINIA Delphi UK LTD

PHINIA is a global fuel and electrical systems developer and provider, headquartered in Stonehouse.
It employs 1,490 people and saw turnover rise from £588 million in 2022 to £620.1 million as of December 2023.
Ecclesiastical Insurance Office PLC
Revenue: £629,953,000
Long-established Gloucester firm Ecclesiastical Insurance saw its revenue grow to just over £629 million in the year to December 2024 — holding its number seven spot in this year’s list, despite a growth of over £43 million.
While it may be most well-known for its insurance services, as part of the Benefact Group it reported a record year in 2024, with exceeded profit targets and a total amount donated since 2014 reaching a milestone of £250 million.
NOV Downhole Eurasia Limited

Based in Stonehouse, NOV Downhole Eurasia operates as a division of its worldwide parent company National Oilwell Varco.
A market leader in providing traditional and bespoke tools for complex drilling projects, the group employs 1,107 staff members and NOV Downhole Eurasia turned over an estimated GBP equivalent of £564.2 million ($767.65 million) in the year ending December 2023 — a huge increase of over $298 million since December 2022.

Headquartered near Gloucestershire Airport at Staverton, the company’s turnover for the year to December 2023 was £492.7 million — up £46.8 million from 2022, which it attributes to increased sales across the year. It has also opened a brand-new engineering and support centre in 2025 as part of a package of investment in its Gloucester site, which currently employs 1,200 people.

A famous fashion firm founded by Julian Dunkerton on a market stall, Superdry's last set of published accounts see the company fall four places from last year’s list, showing a revenue of £488.6 million, with 2,263 employees across the group.
Commenting on the significant 22 per cent revenue decrease in its Companies House filing, its business review reads: ‘The weaker-than-expected financial performance necessitated further action in the form of the restructuring, equity raise and delisting [from the London Stock Exchange]’ but added that the restructuring plan ‘puts the business in a stronger position to deliver its recovery and return the business to growth.’
Green Britain Group Limited

Comprised of Ecotricity, Forest Green Rovers FC and others, the Stroud-based sustainability-led Green Britain Group aims to use business to fight climate change.
Dropping two spots, as of April 2024 its revenue fell from £550.6 million to £466.9 million, with director Dale Vince attributing the decrease to ‘energy sales revenue decreasing by 15.4 per cent compared with 2023, in part driven by a decline in wholesale prices to a more normalised, albeit still elevated level.’

Part of the mighty American business GE Aerospace, GE Aviation Systems has its UK headquarters in Bishop’s Cleeve in Cheltenham, from where it's a leader in technology for the aerospace and defence sectors.
Its UK turnover is listed in US dollars ($515,124,000) which converts to an estimated £378.7 million as of December 2023 — alongside a profit of $67 million after reporting a loss of $74 million in 2022.
Masstock Arable (UK) Limited

This Andoversford-headquartered business provides agronomy services and technologies to support farming systems under the trading name Agrii.
Revenue for Masstock Arable saw a slight drop to just over £369 million for the year ending July 2024, from £436 million in 2023.

Asset management firm Derek Raphael & Co was founded in 1985 and operates from its offices in Cirencester.
Its turnover is listed in US dollars, with a GBP estimate of just over £365 million ($497,838,096) as of December 2023. Its directors commented that they were ‘pleased to report significant profitability following a successful navigation of the highs and lows of the market,’ but that ‘there is some concern heading into 2024 regarding the high interest costs prevailing and the company's ability to be able to pass these costs on to its customers.’
BASF Metals Recycling Limited

Founded in 1968, BASF Metals Recycling Limited runs its operations from a state-of-the-art recycling facility in Cinderford in the Forest of Dean. The company recovers precious metals from old catalytic converters, which contain high-value materials like platinum, palladium and rhodium.
BASF Metals' turnover dropped dramatically during 2023, listed at £343,197,000 — a fall of around 50 per cent on the previous year, largely due to platinum group metal market prices reducing drastically over the period. Despite this, the company made a post-tax profit of £1,643,000 and continues to contribute to the Forest of Dean community with its outreach programmes, champion its staff with workshops and working groups and maintain its commitment to reducing carbon production.
Cotswold Motor Group Limited

Car dealership Cotswold Motor Group is positioned at the Cheltenham end of the Golden Valley and saw turnover for its business, which is reliant on new vehicles from BMW and Mini, rise up 10 per cent from £214.6 million to £235 million for the year ending December 2023.
Breaking down its turnover, it reported a five per cent growth for new cars and an increase of 15 per cent for used cars, with an overall growth in gross profit from used cars increasing due to ‘strong growth in sales.’
Infinigate Global Services Limited (formerly Nuvias Global Services Limited)

Cyber security firm Infinigate, formerly Nuvias Global Services Limited, has global offices located across Europe, the Middle East and South Africa, with a UK base in South Cerney near Cirencester.
As of March 2024, its latest reports show a turnover of more than £223 million, predominantly garnered in the UK. Its operating profit also almost doubled to £4.3 million from just over £2 million.
Marble Power Limited

Business energy provider Marble Power promises to be 'honest, reliable and flexible' in its service to clients across the country.
For the year ending 31 March 2024, the Quedgeley-based business reported an impressive increase in turnover from £172 million in 2023 to £194.1 million. The financial success could be attributed to the company expanding its sales to 'non-GFG Alliance companies’ with intentions to ‘continue this trend in order to diversify its customer book.’
International Plywood PLC

In an extremely competitive market, Stonehouse-headquartered International Plywood remains one of the largest independent timber merchants in the sector, since it was founded in 1981.
It did however see a drop in turnover for the year ending April 2024, with the fair review of the business recognising the effects of the ‘general economic downturn and rapid rise in interest rates’ as the reason for its turnover decreasing from £199 million in 2023 to £176.6 million in 2024.

Moving up nine places from last year’s list, Staverton Technology Park-headquartered business, BRG Technologies, is a leader in mission critical offsite construction of data centres and healthcare facilities.
It consistently posts record turnovers year-on-year, with this year’s totalling over £172 million — up from £106.9 million for 2023 — and perhaps attributed to ‘the average size and complexity of projects undertaken trending upwards.’
G-TEKT Europe Manufacturing Limited

Award-winning manufacturing company G-TEKT is a market leader as a tier one automotive manufacturer with operations in Gloucestershire.
Working with some of the most prestigious car brands across six locations in Europe, the company employs over 700 people and for the year ending March 2024, it reported a turnover of more than £160 million — a huge increase from its 2023 turnover of £115 million.
Kohler Mira Limited

One of Gloucestershire’s biggest manufacturers, Mira Showers employs around 700 staff at its Cheltenham base, where it makes its showers, bathroom taps and accessories.
Kohler Mira has seen turnover remain steady at £160 million, according to its last published annual accounts for the year ending December 2023.
Dairy Partners Limited

Another Gloucestershire business experiencing growth, Stonehouse-based Dairy Partners supplies dairy products to the UK foodservice and export sectors.
Its turnover for the year ending December 2024 grew from £117.4 million in 2023 to over £147 million. The group employs an estimated 208 staff members, too.
Advanced Innergy Holdings Ltd

Rising three places compared to last year, Advanced Innergy Holdings — a global leader in the engineering and manufacture of specialist materials, insulation and passive fire protection systems — reported an increase in accounts from £111 million to £136 million for the year ending September 2024.
Its staff numbers also increased to just over 660, with the company attributing its ongoing growth to ‘the Ukraine conflict emphasising the importance of national energy security, coupled with a recovery in oil price,’ saying it has ‘led to increasing market activity.’

Accounts for the year ending 30 September 2023 for Stroud-based logistics firm, Howard Tenens, highlight promising increases after 'difficult trading conditions' in 2022.
It achieved a four per cent rise to £129 million with group staff numbers at almost 800.

Creed Catering Supplies provides a broad range of wholesale food products to the leisure, education, hospitality and care sectors.
Run by the Creed family and employing almost 400 staff, the firm achieved a significant milestone, passing £100 million turnover in its 50th year, with immense success continuing in 2023 reports. Its total turnover for the year ending December 2023 reached more than £124 million and it’s also been recognised as one of the UK’s best large companies to work for by Best Companies.
Ontic Engineering and Manufacturing UK Limited

This Bishop's Cleeve-based aerospace business is a trusted partner of world-leading aerospace industry members, with staff numbers totalling 520.
Ontic's turnover for the year ending December 2023 rose to just over £123 million ($167,927,000), powered by ‘continued organic growth from existing IP investments in addition to new IP investments made.’

A builder as synonymous with Gloucester as it is with quality, Barnwood is a group of Gloucester-headquartered businesses that saw turnover for the year ending December 2023 rise to £121.9 million — up from £94.1 million in 2022 — with staff numbers totalling 214.
It commented that it has successfully addressed and managed the inflationary pressures of the industry, ‘primarily thanks to [its] people, who continue to go above and beyond with their commitment and performance.’
Futura Foods UK Limited

Remaining in the top 30, Dursley-based Mediterranean cheese specialists, Futura Foods, has battled increased costs as ‘foodstuff prices for animal feed continue to be expensive', however the company ‘managed overall to mitigate this impact by managing its sales prices to its customers in the period.’
Its turnover increased by almost 10 million to £118 million for the year ending December 2024.
SPP Pumps Limited

Another mighty Gloucestershire firm which sits in a much larger group of worldwide businesses, Coleford-based SPP Pumps makes pumps as big as you can imagine for businesses as big as they come — and employs 378 people to do so.
Turnover for the year ending December 2024 increased drastically to £114 million, up from £101 million in 2023.
Sodra Wood Limited

Cirencester firm Sodra Wood drops five places in this year’s list, with a turnover of £103 million in its year to December 2024 — an eight per cent decrease from £112.2 million in 2023.
Employing 29 people, the sustainable wood solutions company's pre-tax profit also dropped from £2.9 million to just under £2.5 million in 2024, largely attributed to ‘the loss of a major customer at the start of the year.’

As one of six firms selected to supply labour for the building of the northern section of HS2, South Cerney-based construction and civil engineering company, Hercules Plc, saw its revenue increase by 28 per cent — more than £22 million — to £101.9 million in the year to September 2024, with its directors forecasting continued growth over the next few years.
Malvern Tyres Holdings Limited

Established more than 35 years ago, Malvern Tyres is one of the largest independent tyre and auto repair specialists in the UK — and despite its name, it has its registered office in Gloucester.
Its turnover for the year ending November 2023 was over £98 million, just a slight increase from £97 million in 2022.

Employing an estimated 430 people and registered at St. James Square in Cheltenham, JSP is a leader in manufacturing 'above the neck' personal protective equipment, with stockists and manufacturing locations found across the globe.

Citing the final commencement of several larger contracts, the company enjoyed a record level of turnover in the year to June 2024, with an increase of £21.5 million — more than 30 per cent — to almost £90.9 million, up from £69.4 million in 2023.

Crediting several account wins and the introduction of new product ranges, turnover for the Leckhampton-based firm rose £8.2 million to £89.2 million in the year to June 2024, building on impressive growth of £11.2 million the previous year.

A leading provider of education and research in the south west, the University of Gloucestershire recorded a turnover of £87.8 million at year-end July 2024.
One of Gloucestershire’s largest employers, the university held 912 staff on its payroll at the end of the academic year in 2024. The university has invested heavily of late, with £2 million going to its Park Campus and its new City Campus at the former Debenhams building in Gloucester opening just in time for the start of the new academic year in autumn 2025.
Cotteswold Dairy Limited

Cotteswold Dairy's turnover saw a slight decrease from £86.4 million to £84.5 million for the year ending December 2023. During the same year, it employed an estimated 447 staff members.

The British arm of the American giant of the same name, Moog has been in Gloucestershire for over 50 years and is a market leader in the manufacture and servicing of electro-hydraulic servo control mechanisms for use in aerospace and Formula One.
Its turnover increased by £18.6 million in the year to September 2023 to £81.6 million, up from £63.1 million in 2022, which directors say is down to the timing of its recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.
Accommodation Services (Holdings) Limited

Active since 1999, Accommodation Services has a registered office in Tewkesbury and operates as an industrial developer — with a single subsidiary, Integrated Accommodation Services plc (IAS), which has a 30 year project agreement with the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, developing new and maintaining existing facilities at GCHQ in Cheltenham.

For the year ending December 2023, its turnover hit £77.1 million — up from £69.9 million in the previous year — though its profits reduced, due in part to increased overhead costs. Directors hope the benefits of taking on 158 new employees will show in the following year.
KW Bell Group

Founded in 1968, KW Bell Group is a family-run construction company and housing developer based in Cinderford, encompassing five businesses — Bell Contracting, Bell Homes, Bell Plant, AccXel Construction School and The Belfry Hotel.
The latest group turnover decreased by around £9 million from £86 million in the previous year, with directors attributing part of that to a subdued housing sector, though it still showed a £7 million profit.
Aurora Care and Education Holdings Limited

Its turnover expectedly fell by £9 million in the year to December 2023, with 2022 seeing an ‘exceptional program’ of card reader sales, though the business returned a profit of £4.2 million.
Clarkson Evans Holdings Limited

Founded in 1981 by Steve Evans, Clarkson Evans came to being after the company began employing apprentices — one being Steve Clarkson. It's now turning over more than £71.3 million for the year ending September 2024.

Hollingsworth and Vose reported a turnover of £58.5 million in the year to December 2023, down £7 million on the year before, which it attributes to the inflation of raw material and energy costs relating to the ongoing war in Ukraine.

While Fasthosts is best-known for being founded by then A-Level student, Andrew Michael, in 1998 and sold for £61.5 million, the Gloucester business continues to deliver internet hosting services and domain name registration today.

For the year ending December 2023, the firm reported a turnover of £42.5 million and while that’s a small drop of around £86,000 from the previous year, BiGDUG’s profit increased by £214,000 and staff numbers increased by 34 to 165.
