8 festive films to sprinkle Christmas cheer in Gloucestershire

From family favourites to golden oldies, SoGlos's elves have been hard at work to find eight Christmas film screenings taking place in Gloucestershire during the festive season.

‘Tis the season to be jolly, with charming characters, seasonal songs and heart-warming stories set to sprinkle festive cheer across Gloucestershire, this December 2021.

We’ve handpicked eight feelgood festive Christmas hits for film fans across the county.

1. The Grinch at Bacon Theatre

Join the grumpy green Who, The Grinch, for an hour and a half of festive spirit at the Bacon Theatre on Tuesday 21 December 2021. This Christmas classic follows the Whos as they decide to make Christmas bigger and brighter than ever before, with the disgruntled Grinch hatching a scheme to steal Christmas once and for all. Tickets cost £9 per person.

2. Die Hard at The Salutation Inn

Is it a Christmas film? Of course, it is! Action film fans can enjoy Bruce Willis’ classic Die Hard this Christmas, with beer and free homemade popcorn! This pop-up cinema night is hosted at the award-winning alehouse, The Salutation Inn, on Monday 20 December 2021. Tickets cost £8.68 per person.

3. A Boy Called Christmas at Gloucester Guildhall

The original story of Father Christmas is re-imagined in Gil Kenan’s live action, family-friendly A Boy Called Christmas, showing at Gloucester Guildhall from Friday 17 December 2021 to Thursday 23 December 2021. Follow the young Nikolas as he sets out on an adventure into the snowy north in search of his father. Tickets cost £6 per person.

4. White Christmas at Bacon Theatre

The archetypal Christmas flick, White Christmas tells the story of two former soldiers who start new careers as nightclub entertainers, showing at Bacon Theatre on Tuesday 21 December 2021. The musical stars Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Vera-Ellen and many more big Hollywood names, featuring seasonal songs by Irving Berlin. Tickets cost £10 per person.

5. Love Actually at Alfresco Film Company Gloucester Brewery

A romantic Christmas classic, catch Love Actually at Gloucester Brewery’s Warehouse 4 Taproom on Sunday 12 December 2021. Watch one of the most-loved British Christmas films, which follows the stories of eight individuals in the run up to the big day, and you’ll discover (or re-discover, more likely!) that love actually is all around. Tickets cost £14 per person.

6. CBeebies The Night Before Christmas at Wotton Cinema

The CBeebies annual festive show is back on the big screen this year with The Night Before Christmas at Wotton Electric Picture House on Saturday 4 December and Sunday 5 December 2021. Kids will love the festive music, dance performances and a star cast of presenters and on-screen talent. And, exclusively for cinema audiences, there’ll be an additional show featuring Justin Fletcher. Tickets cost £7.80 per adult and £5 per child under 12 years-old.

7. The Muppet Christmas Carol at The Regal Cinema in Evesham

Join Kermit, Miss Piggy and the rest of the muppet gang as they retell the Dickens classic tale of Ebenezer Scrooge’s encounter with the three ghosts of Christmas. Showing at The Regal Cinema on Thursday 23 December 2021, the comedic adaptation of the traditional Christmas tale, A Christmas Carol, is one for the whole family. Tickets cost £11.50 per adult, £9.50 per concession, and £8.50 per family show.

8. Elf at Cineworld Cheltenham

Don’t be a cotton-headed ninnymuggins and miss Elf showing at Cineworld Cheltenham on Tuesday 14 December 2021. A comedy classic starring Will Ferrell, Elf follows the story of Buddy, who was raised as an elf in the North Pole and, upon learning his true human heritage, travels to New York to find his biological father. Tickets cost £12.99 per adult, £6.99 per child and £27.96 for a family of four.
