Even with all its highlights of 2021 – which included its name in lights above numerous high profile construction projects in Gloucestershire and beyond – EG Carter has one special memory which stands out from the year.

As a busy, multi-million pound organisation you do not enter awards without a hope of winning, but the county construction firm remains genuinely thrilled and stunned to have left the inaugural SoGlos Gloucestershire Business Awards with two of the most coveted prizes.

Sam Carter, joint managing director of Gloucester-headquartered EG Carter, said the firm was proud to have been recognised – and that the trophies were on display in its reception for visitors to see.

‘Family and family ethics are one of the biggest things about our us. To win Family Business of the Year was brilliant. We were not expecting it. It was a brilliant evening anyway, and to win was just a fantastic surprise,’ said Carter.
And then came the headline Business of the Year Award, sponsored in 2021 by GFirst LEP and The Growth Hub.

‘I was there with Tom Jones, associate director, and we were talking to a couple of people and we heard the build up to the announcement – and then the words “numerous projects” and we just looked at one another,’ said Carter.

‘It was such a positive event and we are so proud to have been part of it. Everyone at the company got a major buzz out of it.’

EG Carter’s wins came after a year which saw it involved in Gloucester’s high profile schemes, The Forum and Kings Square, the building of two £7.5 million county schools, projects for Cirencester College, Gloucester Rugby and more.

And the awards came shortly before Sam and brother Joshua became joint managing directors – the fourth generation of Carters to do so.

Last year’s business awards attracted more than 400 entries with an estimated 300 guests attending the informal networking and prize-giving at Weston Aviation’s Staverton hangar.

This year’s SoGlos Gloucestershire Business Awards, sponsored by Willans and Hazlewoods, are due to take place on Thursday 20 October 2022 at the Minster Exchange, Cheltenham, with entries now open in 22 categories.
