With the Government’s MOT six-month exemption scheme pushing back MOT renewal dates, Cleevely Motors is offering a friendly reminder to ensure Gloucestershire’s drivers don’t end up with a hefty fine.

Introduced back March 2020, the scheme was brought in to ensure frontline workers could keep the country running during the pandemic, but now motorists need to double check if their MOT renewal date has changed.

Matt Cleevely, managing director of Cheltenham-based Cleevely Motors, said: ‘It’s so important people are aware of the rules in place for MOTs and when people are checking their paperwork, it’s also a good reminder for motorists to remember they can be carried out 28 days before the MOT expiry date.

‘People sometimes forget this and it can help with juggling the diary and budgets. It’s surprising the number of people who often don’t realise this is the case – we hope our friendly reminder will keep people on track.’

According to a poll by the AA, 21 per cent of UK motorists took advantage of the MOT extension policy, with Cleevely Motors estimating it means around 5.5million cars had a delayed MOT which they now need to keep an eye on.
