Gloucester firm, Marvel FMCG, is revolutionising the recruitment process by removing the need for a CV.

Marvel FMCG, a recruitment firm based in Gloucester which achieved B Corp status in March 2023, has developed an innovative new process that allows job hunters to apply for positions without needing a CV.

Candidates simply answer questions through a completely anonymised online portal, with their answers going on to be reviewed by the hiring manager and progressed to the next stage.

The new process uses software to ask candidates questions about their skills and knowledge and takes 20 to 30 minutes to complete, assessing their suitability for a job based on what skillset is needed, rather than where they've worked previously or what they've done throughout their lives.

Marvel FMCG, which is a fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sales and marketing recruitment company, has been anonymising CVs for two years, but wanted to make the process even fairer and more inclusive.

Founder, Rich Howell, said: 'The CV is 50 years old and can ultimately create a huge bias in the recruitment process. We wanted to fix this outdated process and remove any bias on gender, salary, neurodiversity or gaps in work history, so that nobody should have to worry about who they are.

'We've been working on this project for at least the last four to five months and have involved some of our clients such as McCain, Lindt, Premier Foods and Red Bull in the process too.

'Two clients are going to be using it in the next two to three weeks and it's going to be very interesting to see how it goes. We want to really stretch the boundaries when it comes to diversity, equity and inclusion, and give everyone a more level playing field. Everyone deserves a brilliant career.'
