From being named Gloucestershire's Business of the Year to incorporating new green practices, Prima Dental has plenty to celebrate as 2023 draws to a close.

Gloucester-based and world-leading dental bur manufacturer, Prima Dental Group, has had an incredibly successful year in 2023, from winning awards and working closely with charities to investing in sustainability projects and expanding internationally — and it's not stopping there.

Striving for the 'constant pursuit of better', the Quedgeley-headquartered firm has taken the market by storm this year, which is reflected by its many accolades.

Prima was awarded International Business of the Year and Business of the Year at the Gloucestershire Business Awards back in October 2023; as well as being named a Highly Commended Business at Made in the UK, Sold to the World and the IOE&IT International Trade Awards.

Not only does it rank highly in the manufacturing industry, Prima Dental takes its impact on the world's natural environment seriously, too, working to improve in all areas of its operations and continuing its efforts to become as sustainable as possible.

This is demonstrated through its environment policy which shapes its practices, incorporating everything from detailed recycling and waste management initiatives to integrating intelligent lighting at its production facilities.

This year, the firm has dropped its landfill disposal from 70 per cent to zero; incorporated healthy energy management systems; as well as reducing energy consumption and overall environmental impact.

Throughout 2024 and onwards the business will continue with its green focus, with the installation of solar panels at its production facilities on the agenda.

Alongside its continued improvements in sustainability, Prima Dental’s investment in its Gloucestershire operation have been significant. Much of its growth continues to come through exports, especially to the United States —  accounting for 65 per cent of sales. It has also experienced vast employment growth; and installed new machines in its state of the art factory in 2023.

Prima has driven sales development in 92 countries around the world, with the firm being the first UK dental manufacturer to set up a sales and distribution arm in India. International trade is particularly significant for Prima Dental, with over 87 per cent of its turnover generated from it. The business has even introduced worldwide events through subsidiaries.

But it's not all about growth for the company — Prima has worked closely with Charlie's and The Spring Centre charities throughout 2023, hosting many internal fundraising and volunteering days put together by Prima employees, who have volunteered their time through painting, gardening, cleaning and other general DIY, to help the charities refresh their headquarters and offer a comfortable and clean environment to those in need throughout Gloucestershire.
