In addition to support from GFirst LEP, borough and district councils, as well as destination marketing organisations across Gloucestershire, Visit Gloucestershire has also now received £100,000 of investment from Gloucestershire County Council – in a bid to ensure the county’s visitor economy is well positioned to thrive post-Covid and into the future.
Formed to actively promote the whole county, Visit Gloucestershire’s aims include: allowing all visitors to access and enjoy everything the county has to offer; minimising the impact on the climate and environment; supporting the local economy and making the most of local supply chains; creating jobs for local people; and furthering the potential of digital technology.
Cllr Mark Hawthorne, leader of Gloucestershire County Council, said: ‘It is going to be so important that with such a strong visitor offer we are, together, ready to make the most of what is likely to be greater numbers of people who want holidaying close to home in the future, enjoying all our beautiful and diverse county has to offer.
‘By having more of a coordinated approach to tourism in the future, we will make Gloucestershire ever more attractive to investors and provide a positive outlook for tourism ahead.’
Visit Gloucestershire director, Steve Gardner-Collins, said: ‘The challenges of 2020 continue in 2021 and we are busy planning a way forward to support all tourism businesses across the county. To do this we are taking a proactive approach to tourism in Gloucestershire for recovery and the future.
‘A shared agenda for tourism is something the Visit Gloucestershire Partnership is working hard to coordinate collaboratively, in order to deliver this document by spring… at this critical time for our communities, we are encouraging all stakeholders to get involved and contribute.’
A draft of the new Together Gloucestershire plan is set to be completed by March 2021.
