Well-known for its numerous filming locations, Gloucestershire can add yet another on-screen accolade to its roster, as Westonbirt School in Tetbury is revealed as one of the filming locations for beloved Netflix series, Sex Education.
Filming for the fourth and final season of the hit show took place from summer all the way through to December 2022, with the school being transformed into the fictional Wallace University, where character Maeve Wiley attends as an exchange student.
The location manager for the production company Eleven Films, Deon Du Preez, wanted a building that could give the feel of an American Ivy League college and was particularly impressed by Westonbirt House's long driveway, saying that the historic building 'takes your breath away.'
Commercial executive at Westonbirt, Camilla Fry, said: 'We were delighted when we were first approached by Eleven Films about season 4 of Sex Education; considering its fanbase, as well as its significance to both pupils and parents at school, we knew it would be a very special project to be a small part of.
'For a production of this scale considering the logistics of the movement of cast, crew and equipment is no easy feat, however we worked closely with the locations team to ensure every possible space was maximised and as central as possible.
'We are always amazed by the brilliance of the creative teams, who are able to see the beauty in each room, as well as completely transform spaces, using their screen magic to splice together locations seamlessly. It has been incredible to see the end project, which is deserving of all of its praise and we are really proud to see Westonbirt School feature so prominently.'
Headmistress of Westonbirt School, Natasha Dangerfield, added: 'The show is a great vehicle for our older pupils to have some conversations prompted by the themes and events covered during the turbulent teen years of those pupils based in and around the fictional Moordale High.'
Sex Education season four is available to stream now on Netflix.
