Actor Ben Miller is just one of the supporters fundraising for the future of the much-loved Stroud venue, The Subscription Rooms.

Closed for almost 12 months due to the pandemic, it has been unable to raise income and has now revealed that to ensure it can fully open it needs to raise £100,000.

‘The Subs needs your support to keep going for the next few months until it can open its doors fully again – and, crucially so that the Subs will continue to be here for many more generations to come,’ said Mr Miller, possibly best known to many as one half of television sketch show Armstrong and Miller and Rowan Atkinson’s sidekick, Bough, in the film Jonny English.

As part of the Crowdfunding campaign supporters can have their name included on the Subscribers Wall of Fame (£25), enjoy tea for two (£40), buy ‘the ultimate’ kids’ party’ (£1,250) or a private party for up to 30 guests with cocktails, canapés and live music (£3,000).

If you want your name in lights, then the top offer is the opportunity to name the newly refurbished Art Deco bar (£20,000).

Hugh Phillimore, director of the Sub Rooms, said the current Covid restrictions for cultural and community venues continued to have a huge impact on the venue’s ability to run its planned programme.

Funds from the Crowdfunding appeal will also enable the Trust to complete refurbishment work to the bar and balcony.
Acts planned for the next few months include Mavis Staples, Mica Paris, James Taylor Quartet, KT Tunstall, The Lovely Eggs, Trevor Nelson, Craig Charles, Martin Kemp, and the Magic Numbers.
