A popular free car parking scheme in Gloucester city centre is returning for Christmas 2023 - with free parking available every Thursday at two city centre car parks.

Christmas shoppers can bag one of more than 600 free parking spaces in the King's Walk and Eastgate Shopping Centre car parks, every Thursday in December 2023, from 3pm, giving present-hunters plenty of time to enjoy daytime and late-night shopping, as well as chance to refuel at the city’s restaurants, bars and cafés.

Plus, to celebrate Small Business Saturday, three car parks including Westgate Street, Station Road and Hare Lane North Car Park, will be free all day on Saturday 2 December 2023.

Gloucester BID will also launch its Reindeer Trail as part of Small Business Saturday, to help shoppers to get into the festive mood and will also be bringing out a new map showing people where Gloucester’s unique and thriving independent shops can be found, as just a few more examples of some really good reasons to visit Gloucester this Christmas

Emily Gibbon, manager at Gloucester BID, said: 'Small businesses make up 95 per cent of all UK businesses and are the backbone of our local economy here in Gloucester... Supporting them this Small Business Saturday and throughout the year, will help our city thrive and flourish.'

Councillor Hannah Norman, deputy leader of Gloucester City Council, added: 'We know just how vital local and small businesses are to creating a vibrant and welcoming high street so we want to do all we can to back them. They face a lot of competition with people shopping online but I would urge people to shop local this December.'
