Popular Cheltenham drinks store, Bath Road Beers, has been recognised as the UK's Independent Beer and Wine Retailer of the Year.

A favourite among craft beer lovers and artisan gin sippers, Bath Road Beers in Cheltenham has been crowned UK Independent Beer and Wine Retailer of the Year at the Drinks Retailing Awards 2024.

The award is judged based on a number of criteria, including the range of drinks on offer, use of social media and events, the staff's knowledge of the drinks on offer and a visit from a mystery shopper.

Big names such as Waitrose and Harvey Nichols were among the other winners, in an event sponsored by BrewDog on 6 February 2024.

Bath Road Beers' manager, Izaak Edge, said: 'The competition was immense, with many larger and more established businesses gunning for the same award.'

'Winning came as a complete surprise, and we certainly celebrated in style, partying the night away!'

The independent store stocks an extensive range of over 450 different drinks, with everything from local beers brewed only a mile away to wines from New Zealand.

In addition to beer and wine, the shop also sells a plethora of spirits, local ciders and alcohol-free alternatives. It also has an on-site bar and a knowledgeable team with ideas for every taste and occasion.

With a number of awards already firmly under its belt, past accolades include Independent Beer and Cider Retailer of the Year in 2022 and Independent Beer Retailer of the Year in 2020.

Lottie Raymond, marketing manager at Bath Road Beers, said:'We are profoundly thankful for the continuous support from our community, which has played a crucial role in our success. This accolade is as much theirs as it is ours.'
