A new Covid-19 testing facility has opened at Coronation Square in Cheltenham.
Just a short drive from the town centre, the new site will offer walk-through PCR Covid-19 testing.
PCR – or polymerase chain reaction – tests are for anyone experiencing Covid-19 symptoms and involve swabbing the tonsils and the inside of your nose, before sending the swabs off to a lab for testing.
Not to be confused with rapid lateral flow testing, which is designed for people who are not currently experiencing any symptoms of Covid-19.
Gloucestershire County Council is reminding people to get a PCR test if they have Covid-19 symptoms such as a high temperature, a new continuous cough or if they’ve lost their sense of smell or taste – or if they have been asked to get tested by a doctor, public health professional or by the local council.
Anyone who tests positive for Covid-19 must self-isolate for a full 10 days to reduce the risk of passing the infection on to anyone else.
