The Severn Bore set to change direction

One of Gloucestershire's biggest spectacles is set to cause ripples when it changes direction this April. Shore to send a wave of panic across the county, SoGlos has the exclusive story.

Renowned for being one of the biggest natural spectacles in Gloucestershire, the Severn Bore will change direction this April. The news is making waves within the local community. But, streams of worried residents have been urged to keep their concerns at bay.

Set to change direction and flow upstream on Sunday 1 April 2018, the Severn Bore will see surfers heading the opposite direction up the Severn Estuary. Authorities suggest the change is going to be anything but plain sailing.

A spokesperson for the Federation of Overflow Liquid said: ‘We’ve been wading through hundreds of e-mails from surfers, concerned about the direction change. But it’s hard to predict how well they will manage.’

With regular surfing daredevils left feeling like a fish out of water, SoGlos spoke to pro-surfer Mr Current who said: ‘When I heard the news about the Bore changing direction, I thought, oh buoy this is going to a challenge! I’ve been surfing for years and never seen Mother Nature sticking her oar in like this.’

Thousands of spectators are expected to watch the new tide as it heads up the river, with thrill-seeking surfers looking for waves to stay afloat and many shore to make a splash.
